General Description of Requirement

The City of Vancouver Water Utility is classified as a level III system servicing a population of 603,502 residing in an area of 115 km2. The Water Distribution System is comprised of 1,400 km’s of mainline and 100,403 service lines. The average age of the piping network is 45 years with mains ranging from 100mm (4 in) to 950mm (36 in) in diameter. The distribution system represents an estimated worth of 1.5 Billion to the City of Vancouver Taxpayers. On an average day, the Vancouver water system delivers 307 million litres of high quality water to its customers.

The City of Vancouver is continuously evaluating all its resources, as water utility owners; we recognize the need to manage leaks and system integrity. One of our key initiatives for the past several years has been the Pro-Active Leak Detection program which has evolved from surveying 33% of the distribution system annually to a survey of the entire system on an annual basis. The main drivers for the program are the management of a sustainable resource through the City’s Greenest Action Plan, Corporate Strategic Business Plan and Engineering Services Departmental Action Plan.

The City of Vancouver Waterworks Operations is requesting to explore vendors that are able to supply Programmable Acoustic Leak Detection Equipment.
